As a parent, one of the hardest jobs we have is playing nurse when our babies are sick or in pain, especially when we know there is not always something we can do to help them get better quickly.  We just want them to feel better. We want them to be comforted by more than just our hugs. That’s where these natural and homeopathic choices come in!

Teething

Without a doubt, you can usually assume that unusual crankiness is probably from swollen gums and teeth trying to make their way through to the surface, but there are more ways than one to help with this big ailment for your little.

Call it witchcraft, call it placebo effect, call it what you will: it works. Having your baby safely wear a baltic amber necklace like our Raw Baltic Amber Teething Necklaces or our Birthstone Baltic Amber Teething Necklaces and see a difference in baby’s mood. The amber, when warmed by the skin, releases succinic acid, providing anti-inflammatory relief, which can reduce pressure and pain caused by teething. For safety, each necklace has individual knots tied in between each bead. Be sure to measure and order a size that will not be long enough for baby to put in his mouth. They are to be worn, not chewed on!

We know that when it comes to teething, cold and pressure tend to do the most good. The teethers we offer come in all shapes and sizes. We have ice cream cone shaped teethers, wooden teethers, sterling silver teethers,  teethers made from recycled plastic, even teethers made in the shape of Game Boys and your favorite Mario characters, (find all our teethers here), but the Toofeze Teether has an interesting combination of our favorite teether features. Ever have your baby love chomping on a metal spoon? This is safer. You place the Toofeze teether upside down into a glass of ice water so that the stainless steel disk gets SUPER cold, then hand it to baby for long lasting cooled comfort.

Aside from the obvious choice of using lotion on your baby, we recommend these three things to help keep eczema at bay: 1. bathe baby less in the winter to maintain skin’s natural moisture, 2. don’t use cheap soap on baby’s skin, which can be full of alcohol and chemicals that strip baby’s skin of moisture, 3. massage baby with Earth Mama Angel Baby Natural Baby Massage Oil after bath and before bed to help baby relax and keep baby’s skin soft and supple. This hospital recommended oil is a gently absorbable grape seed oil blend infused with moisturizing organic Calendula and has virtually no scent. Contains no artificial preservatives or fragrance and no nut oils.

Fevers can be scary, especially when your little is so, well…little. You can help your child feel more comfortable while they’re waiting for medication to take effect (or while you’re waiting out a minor fever) by using a cold cloth across their forehead or along the back of their neck. A cold cloth across the back of the neck can also help alleviate feelings of nausea. This little wipes set by LulaDew is perfect to keep little one cool. Keep a handful of wipes damp inside the wetbag so you can grab a fresh one as you need it while keeping the dampness inside the bag. The wipe is the perfect size for tiny foreheads, too!
